... sister gave birth late Friday evening to a healthy little girl. Little is relative, since she came in at over 8 pounds. Thought about posting a picture, but I figure that's not my call to make. Couldn't be more happy if she were my own, and she's got a pair of lungs on her. Have already spoiled her rotten, but trying to find a truly suitable gift.

Congrats!
Hope the your sis and niece are doing well and adjusting to their new lives.
Thats awesome, congratulations. Maybe there is now a budding microbiologist in the family.
Thanks. Mom and child are now at home and doing well, though a bit tired. The kidlet is a wailer though, so sleep is in large demand right now, so I hear. I'm taking off Friday to go help out for the day while my brother-in-law is at work.
If I have anything to do with it, my niece will not only get her microbiology degree, she'll get it from OU.
that's great that you are close enough to help out. My little one was a wailer too. the miracle blanket (www.miracleblanket.com) really did help her settle down more than any other swaddling blanket- I've given them to friends and my sis, and everyone agrees that it's the best! loud white noise can help a lot too, it's a bit weird, but it sure worked for us.
There sure is a steep learning curve for new parents and lack of sleep doesn't help anything!
Thanks soil mama, I'll check out the miracle blanket. :)
