So ...

... what do people think of the new background? Yucky? Worth keeping? Needs a touch-up or two?

Ivan Privaci said...: I don't know - I tend to associate the fixed starscape sort of background with the sort of diseased mind that has a website with lots of text made up of randomly ALL-CAPS words, extra-large, bright-colored fonts, a sprinkling of gratuitous animated GIFs, and a focus on either crackpot religion, crackpot newage, or crackpot political conspiracy theories. I may, however, be kind of jaded (and maintain a probably-unreasonable curmudgeonly attitude against darkly-colored backgrounds and backgrounds fixed against the scrolling foreground anyway.)

Less jokingly, I'd suggest that your blog's actual content is generally interesting enough that anyone who finds themselves staring at your background rather than reading your postings has "issues". (I actually had to scroll down a ways before I saw that background - I wouldn't have even noticed otherwise.) It doesn't actually look bad, though.; 9:52 PM

Professionally I am a bug hunter (aka microbiologist) and a gene jockey (aka molecular biologist). I started my career as a med tech, but now I'm a research scientist who studies environmental microbiology. When I'm not answering scientific questions about the roles that microbes play on climate change and/or water and soil quality, I'm an amateur astronomer and play racquetball. I'm also a sports nut, though my liking of both the NY Metropolitans (baseball) and NY Jets (football) tests my devotion to these sports on a continual basis. Fortunately, I'm also an OU alumnus (PhD, Microbiology) and we usually have a pretty good football team. Boomer Sooner!
