NUTS! and (*#@&#@!

Yesterday I was pleased with myself. I had finally wrapped up work on my Introduction, to the point that I merged it with the rest of the manuscript, saved it up and went home for the evening. When I got into work early this morning, I attempted to open it up.

Corrupted.

Whiskey! TANGO! FOXTROT!!!

We had a power surge last night, about the time I was wrapping things up, and I guess it fried the two files I had open. The two files? My Introduction file and my new Manuscript file. I still have my M&M and R&D seperate (THANKFULLY!) but my Introduction is gone. Forever. Fortunately I have most of the essentials memorized, but it means having to rewrite it. Mother----er!

And yes, I tried to recover the files. I spent 4 hours doing that, to no avail. It's probably easier for me at this point to just rewrite the damn thing.

*sigh*

I feel your pain. Currently reminiscing on how many of these moments I've had...enough of them to know that trying to recover the data is generally a futile endeavor. Better to just submit to the computer gods' wills and start over. :-P

First off, welcome to my blog (and the blogging world in general)!

Secondly, yep ... futile waste of time. I almost plunked down, in desperation, $40 for file recovery software but found freeware which demonstrated that that would have been a futile waste of money as well. If you really must find a deleted (or corrupt file) try "PC Inspector File Recovery", but don't expect to find what you actually need.

And sadly ... I finished my second Intro yesterday and in some regards, it's probably better than the original. Go figure!

Oh, that sucks! Sorry about your files and all that work. Now my habit of printing a hard copy of everything I'm working on to take home with me doesn't seem quite so paranoid....

Nope, it doesn't. Even though I had several saved copies of my new intro I did print out the entire manuscript last night just in case!

That is a bummer, but it looks like everything turned out for the best. It's always nice when things turn themselves around. Good luck getting everything completed and submitted.
