Humane Society of the United States
Despite the words “humane society” on its letterhead, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not affiliated with your local animal shelter. Despite the omnipresent dogs and cats in its fundraising materials, it’s not an organization that runs spay/neuter programs or takes in stray, neglected, and abused pets. And despite the common image of animal protection agencies as cash-strapped organizations dedicated to animal welfare, HSUS has become the wealthiest animal rights organization on earth.

Just wanted to comment and let you know you've got a pretty cool blog here (Environmental micro seems to be overlooked online). As a future Ph.D student in microbiology at Clemson who hopes to do a postdoc working in Antarctica (Lots of NASA astrobiology funding going on there) I'm sure I'll be interested in your blog.

Hi Jon, thanks for reading and commenting. I agree with you 100% when you say that environmental microbiology is overlooked online. It's one of the reasons I actually started up this blog. Also, excellent choice on the career path. Astrobiology is a favorite subject of mine and if I could do it all over again ... I'd have seriously considered it as a major when I was growing up!
Thanks for the heads up. I don't donate to this organization, but I have friends that might and I will certainly be passing this info. along.
